#PLEASE #HELP.

POPPY’S #SPONSOR A #VET APPEAL
Please help us provide critical veterinary services for desperate #animals in Fiji.

Poppy is Fiji’s most famous dog and her amazing journey is helping to highlight the desperate plight of animals in Fiji.
Poppy arrived at the Animals Fiji Clinic with a brutal facial injury in March 2012.

It appeared she had been struck by a cane knife amputating 50% of her muzzle. With a dreadful open wound she had been left to fend for herself, and by the time she reached us was just 9kg – 50% of her normal body weight.

Had a good Samaritan, not found Poppy and handed her in, she would have died of starvation or as a result of her wounds.
Due to lack of funding, the Animals Fiji Clinic did not have a vet on staff. Poppy waited several months before receiving veterinary treatment. In the meantime, our clinic staff kept her comfortable, pain-free and well fed.

Thanks to a fundraising appeal, Poppy was airlifted to Australia in October 2012 for reconstructive surgery by Dr. Andrew Marchevsky. Her journey was filmed and documented by the Australia television show, Bondi Vet.

Poppy’s story is one in a million. Sadly, so many of the animals she left behind in Fiji suffer and die every day without treatment for illness and injury.

PLS SHARE „ THE MOST AWESOME CAT LOOKS LIKE SHE HAS TWO FACES. #cats #animals #awesome

Here’s a cat that really does looks different at every turn.

Her name is Venus and she is a chimera – a cat with a relatively rare condition where she contains the genetic makeup of two or more cats in one.

Her face, equally divided in appearance features a tortoiseshell face and yellow eye on one side and a calico face with a blue eye on the other side. Most of the rest of her body appears to be tortoiseshell markings, but you can see some of the calico on her chest. She is also heterochromatic — her eyes are two different colors.
Venus has soared in popularity since she her picture was posted earlier this month. She now has more than 25,000 Facebook fans and more than 340,000 hits on Youtube. She is a tiny little thing, weighing only 5 pounds.
The family named her Venus after the Goddess of love and beauty and say she is sweet and easy-going in nature.
It really does look like you are looking at two different cats, doesn’t it?

Serial Killers Hunting Abandoned Pets

Written by Rhonda Heffernan of Stop Crosby Puppy Massacres

There’s something sinister going on in the city of Houston, a crime even more deplorable than the widespread abandonment we have all come to know and dread. It seems that someone, or more likely, a group of people, have been targeting and torturing abandoned animals in a macabre game of cat and mouse.

“After hearing about a horrible puppy massacre on the banks of the San Jacinto river near Houston, I went to investigate,” explains volunteer Rhonda Heffernan. “Upon arriving I found the bodies of five tortured terrier/ chihuahaua mix puppies. Other terrified dogs were hiding in the woods.”

Though the local media is beginning to take an interest in what’s going on here, no one culprit has been identified. And worse yet, it’s suspected that there may be several.

“We have found dogs decapitated, hit by cars, shot with pellet guns and regular guns, dismembered and we have eye witness reports of people running dogs over with 4-wheelers,” Rhonda says with absolute heartbreak. “With the help of a few dedicated volunteers, we have rescued 45 dogs from the two dump sites, but official help is still needed.”

THE KITTEN WITH NEW HOPE FOR ENDLESS HOURS OF PLAY!

Only two months after Corky’s surgery in April, he was able to walk more normally and keep up with his fellow pets at home.

A kitten born with backward and crossed-over legs is healing well after surgery, and keeping up with his fellow pets at home.
Corky, named for the way his legs looked like a corkscrew, was picked up in March at a Minnesota pound by Gail Ventzke, the director of the Cat’s Cradle shelter in Fargo, N. D. She immediately took him to a veterinarian for X-rays and a consultation to find out if there was any way to make him more comfortable.

The true horrors of pet food revealed: Prepare to be shocked by what’s in dog food & cat food, e.g.Roadkill
If you check the labels on grocery store foods, you’ve probably already begun to see that the list of ingredients doesn’t always tell the whole truth about what’s in your food. The same goes for your pets’ food. Behind innocent-sounding words like “meat byproducts” and “meat meal” are horrific manufacturing practices that would turn your stomach. The nutritional considerations of pet foods go beyond the sources of meat in them. Pet food manufacturers add dangerous preservatives and vitamin fortifications that actually make your pets’ food less healthy.

What mysterious “meat byproducts” really are

Let’s start with what usually appears as the protein source and the primary ingredient in pet food: Meat byproducts or meat meal. Both are euphemisms for the parts of animals that wouldn’t be considered meat by any smart consumer. The well-known phrase “meat byproducts” is a misnomer since these byproducts contain little, if any, meat. These are the parts of the animal left over after the meat has been stripped away from the bone. “Chicken by-products include head, feet, entrails, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, stomach, bones, blood, intestines, and any other part of the carcass not fit for human consumption,” writes Henry Pasternak in Healing Animals with Nature’s Cures.

Meat meal can contain the boiled down flesh of animals we would find unacceptable for consumption. This can include zoo animals, road kill, and 4-D (dead, diseased, disabled, dying) livestock. Most shockingly, this also can include dogs and cats. That’s right, your pets could be cannibals. Fast Food Nation author Eric Schlosser writes, “Although leading American manufacturers promise never to put rendered pets into their pet food, it is still legal to do so. A Canadian company, Sanimal Inc., was putting 40,000 pounds of dead dogs and dead cats into its dog and cat food every week, until discontinuing the practice in June 2001. “This food is healthy and good,” said the company’s vice president of procurement, responding to critics, ”but some people don’t like to see meat meal that contains any pets.”

Pet treats imported from China can cause severe illness, death; Spread the word Quickly!

THIS WAS MENTIONED TO ME BY A FRIEND ON TWITTER

(NaturalNews) A recent uptick in adverse event reports has prompted the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to issue a fresh warning to pet owners about the potential toxicity of certain pet treats imported from China. MSNBC reports that at least 70 dogs so far this year have been sickened or killed by chicken jerky products imported from China, and that dog owners who observe any symptoms potentially associated with the use of such treats should stop using them immediately.

According to reports, FDA tests have been unable thus far to identify the precise cause of the contamination as no specific chemicals, microbes, or other harmful contaminants have been detected in tested products. For this reason, the agency is simply warning the public to beware of all imported pet treats and to watch for any warning signs of sickness that may be associated with them.

Purchasing any food products at all from China is a bit like playing Russian roulette, though, as the country’s food quality standards leave much to be desired. Many NaturalNews readers will recall the melamine mayhem from back in 2008 when roughly 53,000 children fell ill from tainted milk products (http://www.treehugger.com/green-foo…). Earlier that same year, pet food protein supplements made in China were also found to be tainted with melamine.
